Conquer Spending

Feeling like you’re at war with your money? It has an agenda of its own. It has us in a power struggle, so we buy things we don’t really need? Today we’re going to uncover the psychology and money scripts so we can conquer spending. I'll give you actionable steps to take control of your finances and build a truly rich life.

To conquer spending, we need to understand our money scripts. Money scripts are our subconscious beliefs about money that’s often formed in childhood. Some negative money scripts are “I’m not good with money. I deserve to treat myself. I don’t deserve to treat myself. Money is the root of all evil.”

These beliefs lead to self-sabotaging financial behavior. Here are some common types.

  1.  Overspending
  2.  Money avoidance. Never wanting to look at you bank app or credit card bill. Not budgeting.
  3.  Procrastination. Delaying paying bills even when you have the money in the account.
  4.  Unrealistic Expectations. Setting unattainable financial goal. Relying on future income to justify present reckless spending.
  5.  Negative self-talk. I’m bad with money.
  6.   Emotional Spending. Using money as a coping mechanism for stress, sadness or other emotions leading to impulse and often regrettable purchases.

What money scripts are you holding on to?

What did you hear or see about money growing up?

What is your gut reaction to the word Rich?

Did your parents argue about money?

Did you have a rich relative that family members trashed talked when they weren’t around?

Do you come from a culture that believes women should have no part of financial decisions made for the family? Women are to remain submissive.

I’m not a therapist and what I’m about to say is just my opinion.

You can dig deep into the past and try to figure it out. If you can, great. If you can’t, great. I don’t believe you need to do years of psycho analysis to get to the bottom of it and then you’re cured.

There’s a brilliant Buddhist saying, “I don’t need to know the origins of fire to know it will burn me.”

Most of our parents did the best they could with the tools they had. We may disagree with it but too bad, it’s in the past. We need to move forward, or we will continue to live in a cycle of debt and bad financial decisions.

If you want to stay in the past and blame your parents for everything, go ahead, click off this video, you’re not going to want to see how to move past it.

I’m not saying that if there was abuse or trauma that you should ignore that. Get help from a licensed professional. There are many wonderful ones out there.

The people who wanted some really expensive toy and their parents didn’t buy it for them, suck it up and move on.

How do we conquer our spending? We are going to use a simple 5 step method.

  1. Define your why. Why do you want to stop spending uncontrollably? Financial goals, or reducing debt, or to just gain control over your money.
  2. Track our spending. We need to accurately track our spending for a period of time to see what we’re spending on. There are apps, you can use a small note pad, you just need to record everything you purchase no matter how small.
  3. Budget. Create a realistic budget. I have a play list of the different budgeting methods you can use.
  4. You then need to stick to your budget.

The last step, we need to build a Fierce Rich Mindset.

We need to redefine the word rich, like we did with frugal. Rich is not only about money. It’s about freedom and living a fulfilling life.

A positive money mindset is crucial for long term financial success.

We have the power to change our relationship with money and create a truly rich life.

What’s one thing you’re going to do to change
